This is an overview of the outdoor design and construction projects I've taken on in the last few years. These are all improvisational designs, meaning I started with a sketch and just shifted directly to digging holes, figuring that the measurements would work themselves out as necessary. These projects were done by hand, which I must say is an amazing way to keep fit.

Back Yard Deck
This deck project was my 2nd major undertaking after the workshop project. Going into this, I had very little experience with fence, deck or concrete construction and very few visible scars. Two months later, things were different. I cherish the abundance of mistakes on this project as they started me down the path towards doing things correctly. Eventually.
The vision featured a 3 tiered fountain supported by a cable system. The upper tier was subsequently repurposed into another garden after a learning experience.

Cairnstone
This project was my largest construction project to date, done during the final months of 2021. Finished entirely by hand, "Cairnstone" yard consists of two 6' tall Mangaris double sided fences, 9 concrete poured basins, 3 decks, 2 yard encompassing 2' walls, a "dog library," 1 tigerwood sub-fence with succulent wall, full LED lighting, cairn garden, small stairway, modern bench, several stone walkways, 3-tiered main fountain, various small artworks and much in the way of gardening. In reflecting back on this project, the one thing I feel most proud of is my increase in ability to dig holes in 110 degree heat.
Treehouse
With Christmas coming up in a month, I had an idea to build the kids a modern treehouse concept, accessible through the living room window. I scoped out this surprise with Isla's young friends quite a bit, factoring in the valuable contributions. The resulting treehouse features a tigerwood deck, homework desk, 2-tiered suspension fountain, planting garden, paper lantern "ceiling," sitting area and a hammock.
